St. Joseph County Parks is YPN South Bend's 2019 Charity of Choice. In one of our efforts to support this organization we will be hosting a YPN Work Day at St. Patrick's Park on October 19.
What will the work day consist of? We are so glad you asked!
This volunteer opportunity will be helping with some of the early stages of the River Ramble Natural Playscape coming to St. Patrick's County Park in 2020. A few volunteers will be in the small patch of woods, planting some small native plants on a hillside, and some will be digging out invasive multiflora rose bushes. You will need gloves(we will provide some, but if you have any, please bring them), and sturdy footwear. Other volunteers will be trimming branches that they have started to stockpile for kids to build shelters with... and a couple folks will work over in the maintenance area and chisel out some of the spongy wood in the big hollow log tunnel. We will provide some hand tools, but you may want to bring your own sturdy pruning shears.
Can't make it on the 19th? We will likely have one more volunteer opportunity before the end of the year.
You can also donate to St. Joseph County Parks to help make our parks continue to grow with more paved trails, natural playgrounds, new un-paved trails, new park sites, native plant gardens and more.
Donate online while The Community Foundation of St. Joseph County AND CreatINg Places program of the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority will be matching your donations!
